When your dental health is at risk, we will do everything we can to make sure that you're treated as soon as possible. While dental emergencies are rare, they can happen, and it's important to know how to take care of your teeth no matter what.

Common dental emergencies include:

- Broken or cracked tooth/teeth or roots

- Broken jaw and trauma of facial soft tissues or in the mouth

- Baby tooth or Permanent tooth knocked out

- Object caught between teeth

- Severe toothache

- Dental abscess or a gum abscess

- Allergic reaction in the dental area

Please be advised to admit to the hospital asap if you have signs of the severe dental infection (especially if your dentist is not available):

-Trouble breathing normally because of the swelling inside of your mouth

- Issues or pain when swallowing

- Swelling of your tongue that causes changes of the speech

- You have swelling on the side of the tongue and tongue moved to the side

- Swelling of your neck

- Swelling of the cheek and gum associated with fatigue, high fever, lightheadedness, vomiting, increased heart rate

- Swelling in the area of your eye.

Dental Trauma

Trauma of the teeth needs immediate attention of your dentist. The area needs to be examined, x-rays will be done. if teeth are broken they might be extracted. In case of nerve damage, teeth may need a root canal treatment. Loose teeth should be splinted for around two weeks to become reattached to the bone again. In case of the open wound associated with the trauma, your dentist will ask you to provide information about tetanus vaccination. Trauma of the soft tissues at the facial area and in the mouth sometimes need stitches, so your dentist will numb the area and close the wound.

One of the common emergencies among the children is trauma to the tooth when the tooth is out. If the baby tooth was knocked, unfortunately it will not be possible to reattach it. In case of the adult tooth being out, it is important to preserve it and bring it to the dental office.

Your dentist will assess the area of trauma, and the tooth and possibly reattach it to the jaw. For the successful reattachment it is important to place a tooth in the milk or in your own saliva. If possible the tooth could be kept behind the cheek until you see the dentist. If the tooth dries or is placed in water, reattachment will not be possible. In the case when the tooth falls on the ground, simply wipe the debris with a clean cloth, do not wash the tooth with water!
