During your first visit we assess the type and number of the required x-rays. This decision is made on the base of your current dental health condition, dental history, existing personal risks of dental disease and other parameters. Some patients do not require any x-rays, others could need multiple x-rays.

If your previous dentist or physician has taken x-rays, they could be transferred by sending a written request signed by the patient.

Please be advised that your first visit may take from 30 to 60 minutes depending on the complexity of the dental problems, amount of the x-rays that are required and other factors.

- You should place pressure on the gauze pad covering the extraction site for 15-20 minutes. If bleeding continues, apply new gauze and pressure for and additional 20 minutes.

- Do not eat or drink hot beverages after surgery for 2 hours.

- Do not smoke after extraction, it is negatively affecting healing process, creating a risk for postoperative complications (dry socket).

- Do not rinse your mouth for 24 hours!

- Do not use a straw.

- Do not spit.

- Do not brush your teeth on the day of the surgery. Then resume normal home care, gently brushing and flossing.

- Some bruising, swelling, and pain are normal after extraction. Pain and swelling decrease after 3 days. Consult with your dentist regarding the pain control.

- Stay on a soft diet such as soups, milkshakes, fruit juice, and yogurt, scrambled egg for at least 24 hours.

- Do not bite your lips, cheeks, or scrape your gums. Children should be watched carefully to make sure they don’t do this. It will damage soft tissues and result in pain

- Avoid physical activities at the day of the extraction.

- Some patients develop an infection after extraction. Usually signs of infection appear on day 5 after the extraction. Please contact us in case of infection signs( increased body temperature, increasing swelling, increasing pain, breathing problems, problems with swallowing, increasing pain). The dentist will see examine you.

- If after 3 days after extraction you feel bad taste and increasing pain you may develop so called dry socket. Dry socket is a post-extraction complication when blood clot covering the extraction socket is not formed or destroyed by bacteria. This condition will require an additional treatment. Please call and book an appointment.

- The dental office will contact you 24-48 hours after extraction for the follow up.
