Good news for the guys who love brushing teeth! It could kill our new enemy – COVID-19.

All family of coronaviruses is inactivated by hydrogen peroxide which is a common component of a whitening toothpaste or whitening strips. Usually, a whitening toothpaste would contain 0,1% of peroxide and whitening strips – 0.6% of hydrogen peroxide.

0.1% hydrogen peroxide is proven to be effective in the inactivation of coronaviruses and becomes an officially recommended disinfectant effective against COVID -19. For example, Royal College of Dental Surgeons (the main regulatory body for the dentists) made a 30-second mouth rinse with 0,1% hydrogen peroxide a part of the protocol for the patient coming to the dentist. Keeping in mind that an average tooth brushing session takes around 2-3 minutes, viruses do not have a chance to survive!

If you would choose to use brushing with whitening toothpaste as an effective and available way of reducing the number of viruses in your mouth, please remember about possible precautions and side effects such as increased sensitivity of teeth.
